1. If the machine is new to you, do a few "trials" to find the optimum distance between yourself and the microphone.
2. Speak clearly and, initially anyway, spell any unusual words, technical terms, names and place names.
3. Try to avoid paper rustling! (Seriously. You’d be surprised!)
4. Remember to tell the transcriber what kind of work you are dictating (i.e. File Note, Instructions, Statements, etc).
5. Try to minimise background noise.
6. If you are recording a conference it is best to invest in a conference microphone.
