Why Shouldn’t I Offshore Instead?
Whilst we realise that there is a need for some larger organisations, such as hospitals, to send digital transcription work overseas for financial reasons, OLS feel that this could potentially be a false economy. Perhaps we should change the above question to “Why Should I Offshore?” to which there is only one answer, the possibility of saving money.
However, one senior member of staff in a leading Northern Law Firm described the difficulties thus: “(the work from offshore companies was of) poor quality – Indian transcribers often struggled to pick up on dialect or nuances, and a lack of understanding of legal jargon, phrasing and UK geography, meant a lot of time was spent correcting errors and filling in blanks.”
